The bird population is decreasing, and that’s a fact. According to the Science magazine, there is a loss of 3 billions birds since 1970, which is 29% of the global avian population. This is happening due to the loss of their natural habitat, caused by the humans who expand their territories, and also by the domestic cats who kill millions of them each year; that is a huge impact on the natural cycle. Now, you are probably wondering “what can I do to help?”. Well, you can actually do a lot of things to help them, and you are going to learn them in this article!

To begin, to satiate their hunger, you can install a a bird feeder in which you can put a variety of seeds (black sunflower, millet, corn, peanuts...) that is going to feed different type of birds. If you have a lot of patience and calm, you could try to give them seeds in your hands so they can come to you! Also, a bloc of tallow is very useful, because it gives them protein (it is usually a mix of peanut butter, seeds, and also dried fruits) and the force they need, especially during winter. Finally, a bird bath is going to give them water to drink, but they can also wash and refresh themselves during the hot days of summer. Planting trees and bushes that provide berries is always a plus, because it is directly natural for them.

After, another way to REALLY help the birds is by installing a birdhouse, in which they can nest. By doing this, you are giving them the opportunity to peacefully grow a family, and you can also have the chance to see the babies when they are gonna quit the nest. Last spring, I had the chance to shelter two Common starling. It was so nice to see them come and go with all the things they needed to built their nest, and also hearing the little sounds the babies were making. It was an amazing process. And at the end, in May, we saw the little birdies show their head in the opening, then, they left the day after.

Finally, you don’t need to do these things all in once, starting by buying or building a bird feeder with material you already have at home is already going to help them and they are going to be very happy! I hope those tips are going to be useful, see you in my next article!

I love your blog. It is very informative and the photos are amazing. Did you take all of these yourself? Please indicate the source of your photos, especially the ones you took yourself!
